Saturday morning, and at the gym doing my circuits as usual. While training I noticed a personal trainer putting someone through their paces. I noticed they were wearing a top that said “Tennis Coach” on the back. I have always wanted to learn tennis, but have found my previous experiences were not very positive. So, when I saw this person in the gym my thoughts were it may be a good idea to ask if they took classes, or at least point me in the right direction. Well if you know my gym it is a very friendly place. You do not have to see a person enter more than once to wish them welcome, and there are always people with good advice, and interesting ideas to share.
So, after I finished my training, and they had finished their instructing I approached them and asked if they were a tennis coach. Before I could say any more the preson responded with “I only train children” and walked off leaving me standing there. Excuse me! Did I say or do something wrong???
It would have been nice of them to respond with “really sorry I only train children, but if you are interested I can point you in the right direction” or “I know someone who may be able to help” after all you do work in the field don’t you? I did not have a chance as they did not even acknowledge my interest in a sport they are supposed to be involved in.
You are meant to be an advert for your sport, and you are meant to be an advert for your profession. Sorry but you failed miserably on both counts. Still it won’t stop me being positive in the gym. Way too many friendly people here. I will make sure to avoid that instructor in the future. Standoffish and aloof are the only two words that come to mind.
