My mornings are usually a breakfast of Pancakes and Maple Syrup. Not to worry, They are always covered in Strawberries and Blueberries so I would like to think I am taking good care of my health. Recently I got curious about the comparisons between Maple Syrup and Honey so decided to do a little research to see what information I could find.
Well my first search threw up a little know disease called “Maple Syrup Urine Disease”. Imagine my shock to find this top of the list of subjects for Maple Syrup. I carried out a little research and found out that it was apparently a heredity disease. So I could breathe a sigh of relief. It has nothing to do with the amount you consume as I have allowed the bottle to slip on the odd occasion spilling a more than an adequate amount of syrup on my pancakes. I admit I seem to be a bit of an addict at the moment. You read so much information about the dangers of sugars that you have to be careful how you get your fix these days.
Anyway, to my surprise it appears Maple Syrup has its own strengths, alongside honey, so I can continue with my breakfast without being too concerned.
Here is a link to some information I found on a website called FoodStruct that shows the vitamin and mineral content of both, and shows the two are more likely to compliment each other rather than compete. Maple Syrup vs Honey. So I guess its a good thing I have honey in my coffee at the same time. I guess we should leave any thoughts about caffeine until another time.
Here is a chart that shows the quality of both if you don’t want to read the article.
On Another Note FoodStruct is a fantastic site for information on food content and food comparison. Definitely a site to bookmark if you are interested in knowing what food is best for your personal needs.
