Diet Check

How Healthy is your Diet
We hear every day certain food types are, or are not so good for us. We are also told about the amount of calories we should consume on a daily basis. Lets look at some ways we can make it easy for you to monitor both and see if we can use this information to make ourselves a bit healthier.

Bear in mind a diet that includes variety and moderation of food types is more likely to be beneficial to you long term. The secret is in managing the portions and amounts you consume.

It may also involve you questioning why you really eat some of the food types you do, and some honest reflection of yourself.

Question: Do you snack because you are hungry?

Chances are it is likely to amount to you changing your eating habits over time.

Junk Food
Junk food is a descriptive term for cheap food containing high levels of sugar, salt or fat. This type of food usually contains high levels of calories.

Lets take a look at the food you eat throughout the week. What is in it that you know you REALLY should reduce.

Sugar
The hidden sugar in your diet..

Some sweet-tasting foods don’t have the word ‘sugar’ in the ingredients list on their packaging, but still have sugar in them – its just labelled in a different way, for example ‘dextrose’ or ‘modified starch’.

Salt

Fats

Nitrates
Manufacturers add nitrates and nitrites to foods such as cured sandwich meats, bacon, salami or sausages to give them color and to prolong their shelf life. When added to processed foods in this way, both nitrates and nitrites can form nitrosamines in the body, which can increase your risk of developing cancer
